  • 0.5 cup Brown Sugar You can substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon Feel free to add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth.

For the crisp topping

  • 1 cup Oats Whole oats or gluten-free oats if needed.
  • 0.5 cup Walnuts Chopped; pecans or almonds also work.
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose Flour Substitute with almond flour for gluten-free option.
  • 0.25 cup Maple Syrup Just enough to sweeten without overpowering the apples.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples; combine them in a bowl with half of the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, mix the oats, remaining brown sugar, flour, chopped walnuts, and a dash of cinnamon. Stir in maple syrup and a splash of melted coconut oil until crumbly.

Baking

  • Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased baking dish and sprinkle the oat topping over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.

Serving

  • Let the crisp cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider adding dried cranberries or raisins for a touch of tartness. For a festive twist, sprinkle in some pumpkin spice or ginger. Reduce the sugar for a healthier option.
