  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese Substitute with cottage cheese for lighter option
  • 3 cups Mozzarella Cheese Fresh mozzarella gives extra flavor
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Swap with nutritional yeast for dairy-free option
  • 3 cups Marinara Sauce Use favorite jarred or homemade sauce
  • 1 large Egg Omit for vegan version, add a splash of almond milk
  • 1 tsp Salt Essential for seasoning
  • 1 tsp Pepper Essential for seasoning
  • 2 tsp Italian Herbs A mix of oregano and basil

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and gather your ingredients.
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and half of the Parmesan cheese until well combined.

Layering and Baking

  • Spread a layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Layer three lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, a layer of mozzarella, and a sprinkle of Italian herbs.
  • Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and herbs until you run out of ingredients, finishing with a final layer of noodles topped with sauce and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing, allowing the layers to set perfectly.

Notes

Add vegetables like spinach or zucchini for a healthier twist. For meat lovers, incorporate browned ground beef or Italian sausage. For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes. Use cashew cheese for a vegan version.
