Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef For traditional flavor. Feel free to use turkey or chicken for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Adds texture. Try using gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese For that distinct, savory flavor.
  • 1 large egg This binds the meatballs together beautifully.
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced Fresh garlic really enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano A lovely herb that complements the ingredients perfectly.
  • to taste salt and pepper Essential for bringing out the flavors.

For the Sauce and Pasta

  • 1 jar marinara sauce (24 oz) Store-bought is quick, but homemade is incredible if you have the time!
  • 12 ounces spaghetti Or any pasta of your choice.
  • to taste fresh basil Adds a pop of color and fresh flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Roll them gently to keep them tender.

Cooking the Meatballs

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, carefully place the meatballs in the skillet.
  • Cook for about 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they’re browned on all sides.

Making the Sauce

  • Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs and allow it to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through.
  • While the meatballs are simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain, reserving a small cup of pasta water.
  • Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the meatballs. Toss gently to combine, adding a bit of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.

Serving

  • Divide the spaghetti and meatballs among plates. Garnish with fresh basil and an extra sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using ground turkey or chicken, and whole wheat spaghetti. Mix in seasonal veggies like zucchini or spinach for added nutrition.
