Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat up 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant and golden.
  • Toss in the chopped bell peppers and cook for another 2-3 minutes until they soften.
  • Slowly add the chopped cabbage, stirring well to combine with onions and peppers. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and wilt down for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Gently fold in shrimp and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until shrimp turns pink and opaque.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Notes

For variations, add diced ham or bacon for a smoky flavor, or use less oil for a lighter dish. Serve with rice or cornbread, and store leftovers in the fridge for up to three days.
