Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of sourdough starter, 1 cup of water, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Stir until the mixture forms a shaggy dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently for about 5 minutes to achieve a smooth consistency.
  • Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Gently punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Shape it into a round loaf.
  • Line your crockpot with parchment paper and place the loaf inside.
  • Cover and let the dough rise for an additional hour.
  • Turn your crockpot on low and let the bread bake for about 4-5 hours.
  • Once done, carefully remove the bread and let it cool on a rack before slicing.

Notes

For variations, you can mix in a tablespoon of dried herbs, fold in cheese before shaping, or add nuts for texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
