Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 medium medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) A firm variety allows for the perfect bake. Feel free to mix types for added flavor.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (or maple syrup for a healthier option) Adds warmth and depth; explore coconut sugar for a lower glycemic alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Classic spice that brings out the apple's natural sweetness.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional) A cozy addition that enhances flavors and adds an inviting perfume.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For richness; swap this with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/4 cup raisins or nuts (optional) For a delightful crunchy texture or added sweetness; walnuts or pecans make perfect accompaniments.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Rinse and core the apples, creating a hollow center for the filling.
  • In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts or raisins if using. Mix until well-coated.
  • Spoon the filling generously into each apple, packing it tightly.
  • Arrange the stuffed apples upright in a greased baking dish and add butter on top of each apple.

Baking

  • Pour a splash of water at the bottom of the dish to create steam.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, until the apples are tender but still holding their shape.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Serving

  • Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
