  • 1 lb ground beef providing rich flavor and protein
  • 1 large head green cabbage can substitute with savoy cabbage or kale
  • 1 cup cooked rice can use quinoa or cauliflower rice for a low-carb alternative
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes fresh tomatoes work great too
  • 1 piece onion, chopped enhances the dish with savory sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced for aromatic flavor
  • 1 tsp paprika can replace with smoked paprika for deeper flavor

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, cooked rice, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • While the mixture simmers, carefully remove the core from the cabbage and gently separate the leaves.
  • Create a layer of cabbage leaves at the bottom of a large baking dish.
  • Spoon half of the beef mixture over the cabbage leaves, then add another layer of cabbage, followed by the remaining beef mixture.
  • Finish with a final layer of cabbage on top and cover the baking dish with foil, sealing it tightly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cabbage is tender and lightly golden.

Notes

Add chopped bell peppers, carrots, or spinach into your beef mixture for added nutrition and color. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top for a cheesy crust. For a kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
