Ingredients
  

For the Sausage Rolls

  • 500 g sausage meat Can use pork, chicken, or plant-based alternative.
  • 320 g puff pastry Always keep some on hand for quick meals.
  • 1 unit egg, beaten For a beautiful glaze.
  • 1 unit onion, finely chopped Feel free to substitute with shallots.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is ideal; can use garlic powder.
  • 1 tsp dried thyme Fresh thyme is also lovely.
  • salt and pepper Essential for seasoning.
  • sesame seeds (optional) For decoration.

For the Honey Mustard Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey Use local honey for an extra touch.
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard Adjust to taste.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until soft, about 5 minutes. Let cool.
  • In a bowl, combine the sausage meat, cooked onion, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to about 3mm thick. Cut into long rectangles, approx. 10cm x 15cm.

Assembly

  • Place a generous spoonful of the sausage mixture along one edge of each rectangle.
  • Brush edges with beaten egg, then roll the pastry over the filling, sealing it tightly.
  • Place rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet, cut slits for steam release, and brush with egg.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if using.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the rolls bake, whisk together honey and Dijon mustard in a small bowl.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Can freeze uncooked; bake from frozen, adding a few minutes to the baking time.
