Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice your baguette in half, arrange on a baking sheet, and spread a generous layer of butter on both halves.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook chopped onions until they are translucent. Add minced garlic and stir for another minute until fragrant.
  • Add your ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart until browned.
  • Stir in tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Season with oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper to your taste. Let the mixture simmer for about five minutes.
  • While the filling simmers, pop the bread into the oven. Allow it to toast for about 5–7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Once the bread is ready, spoon the meat mixture generously onto each half. Top with cheese, and return to the oven for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

For a healthier twist, stir in bell peppers or mushrooms into your meat mixture. For a kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce. Substitute with gluten-free bread if needed.
