Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Regular or Italian-style; gluten-free breadcrumbs also work.
  • 1 large egg A flax egg can be used for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup milk Whole, low-fat, or plant-based milk is acceptable.
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion Shallots or leeks can be substituted.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Garlic powder can be used if fresh is not available.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Soy sauce is a good gluten-free substitute.
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tsp pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup ketchup BBQ sauce can be used as an alternative.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all the ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently with hands or a spatula until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into a loaf form and place it in a greased baking dish or lined baking sheet.
  • Spread the ketchup evenly over the top of the loaf.

Cooking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a cheesy meatloaf, add shredded cheese. For extra nutrition, toss in finely diced bell peppers or carrots. For a spicy version, add cayenne or chopped jalapeños.
