Meatball Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Bread Crumbs Panko for lighter texture or oat flour for gluten-free.
  • 1 Egg Acts as a binding agent; chia seeds mixed with water can be a vegan substitute.
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Fresh is best, jarred can save time.
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, grated Fresh gives the best aroma, but powdered can work in a pinch.
  • 2 Scallions, chopped Adjust to your taste.
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium is a good alternative.

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup General Tso's Sauce Make your own or buy store-made.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil Can substitute with olive oil.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, ginger, and chopped scallions. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  • Season the mixture with soy sauce, mixing thoroughly to incorporate.
  • Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on the baking sheet, spacing them evenly.

Cooking

  • Bake for 20 minutes, until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and are golden brown.
  • While the meatballs bake, heat General Tso's sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once bubbling, reduce heat to low and keep warm.
  • When the meatballs are done, carefully toss them in the warm General Tso's sauce to coat evenly.
  • Serve hot, garnished with extra scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
