Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment for easy removal.
  • Whisk together the melted butter and sugar in a large bowl until glossy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt; fold into the wet mixture gently until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips if using, then pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes. They are done when the edges look set and a toothpick in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
