Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage Can substitute with savoy or napa cabbage.
  • 6 slices Bacon Use your favorite type: classic, thick-cut, or turkey bacon.
  • 1 medium Onion Yellow or white onions work well.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced; fresh preferred.
  • to taste Salt Essential seasoning.
  • to taste Pepper Essential seasoning.
  • optional Red pepper flakes For a hint of heat.
  • optional Apple cider vinegar For a tangy touch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the cabbage into thin strips, chop the onion, and mince the garlic. Set aside.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the bacon. Cook until crispy, stirring occasionally (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Remove the bacon from the skillet, keeping the bacon fat in the skillet.
  • Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent (around 3-4 minutes).
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and toss everything together. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage wilts and becomes tender.
  • Return the crispy bacon to the skillet, stirring to combine everything.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Drizzle in apple cider vinegar for a delightful flavor enhancement, if using.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, salty, tender morsels.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, use turkey bacon or sauté the cabbage in olive oil. Consider adding veggies like sliced carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
