Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cut the day-old bread into cubes and spread it evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • If using, sauté your chosen vegetables in a skillet over medium heat until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk, adding garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, then sprinkle the sautéed vegetables and shredded cheese on top.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the strata cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. Freeze for a quick meal later.
