Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour A fundamental ingredient that provides structure.
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet) Gives the rolls their fluffy rise.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Essential for enhancing flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adds a touch of sweetness—can substitute with honey or maple syrup.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm milk (about 110°F) Activates the yeast; non-dairy milk works too!
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted For that rich, indulgent flavor—try olive oil for a healthier swap.
  • 1 large egg Brings everything together; swap with a flax egg for a vegan option.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk and melted butter. Allow it to cool slightly, then whisk in the egg until fully combined.
  • Create a well in the flour mixture, then pour in the warm milk mixture. Using a wooden spoon, stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Once risen, punch the dough down to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces, rolling each into a ball. Place the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spacing them evenly.
  • Cover the rolls again and let them rise in a warm spot for about 15 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • As soon as they come out of the oven, brush the tops with melted butter for an irresistible finish.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, freeze in a zip-lock bag for up to three months. Reheat in a warm oven for about 10 minutes.
