Ingredients

For the Caramel Apples

  • 6 medium medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best for a perfect tart-sweet combination.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar This is the foundation of your caramel.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Adds richness to your caramel.
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a creamy and smooth texture.
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup Helps prevent the sugar from crystallizing.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A touch of warmth and flavor.
  • Wooden sticks For easy dipping (craft sticks or popsicle sticks work great).
  • Toppings (optional) Chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or sprinkles can elevate your caramel apples.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.

Making the Caramel

  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, heavy cream, and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir to combine and allow it to come to a boil.
  • Continue cooking, stirring frequently to ensure even cooking. Once the mixture reaches a deep amber color—about 10-15 minutes—remove it from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Dipping and Setting

  • Allow the caramel to cool for a few minutes until it thickens slightly. Hold each apple by the stick and dip it into the caramel, turning to coat completely. Let excess caramel drip off.
  • If you desire, roll the dipped apples in your favorite toppings while the caramel is still warm.
  • Place the caramel apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them cool completely.
  • Once set, slice into the sweet, gooey goodness and savor every bite!

Notes

For a chocolate drizzle, melt some chocolate chips and drizzle it over the caramel-dipped apples before they set. Experiment with flavors by adding a pinch of sea salt to the caramel. For a lighter option, consider using yogurt or fruit dips.
