Ingredients

Pasta

  • 12 ounces Pasta (penne or fettuccine) Choose your preferred type.

Vegetables

  • 1 cup Bell peppers (sliced) Add color and sweetness.
  • 1 medium Onion (chopped) Provides a robust base flavor.

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cream Substitute with dairy-free version if needed.
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning Adjust to your spice preference.

Proteins

  • 1 pound Chicken, shrimp, or sausage (cooked) Choose any protein as per your preference.

Instructions

Cooking the Pasta

  • Start by boiling a pot of salted water. Add your pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about a cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

Sautéing the Vegetables

  • In a large skillet, add a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, toss in the chopped onions and bell peppers, cooking until they're tender and fragrant.

Adding Seasoning and Sauce

  • Sprinkle in your Cajun seasoning, allowing it to bloom in the oil for a minute or two.
  • Pour in the cream and mix well. If you're looking for a lower-calorie option, consider using a light cream or a plant-based alternative.

Combining Ingredients

  • Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing everything together. If the sauce seems thick, adjust the consistency with reserved pasta water until it’s creamy and luscious.
  • If you’re including protein, this is the time to add cooked chicken or shrimp, mixing them in to heat through.

Finishing Touches

  • Round out the flavors with salt and pepper, if necessary, ensuring every forkful is perfect.

Notes

For a festive meal, pair with garlic bread and a garden salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
