Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour The foundation of our dough, soft and fluffy.
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast Helps our dough rise, making it light and airy.
  • 1 cup Milk Dairy or non-dairy milk, such as almond or oat.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Adds richness; can be substituted with coconut oil for a vegan version.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar A touch of sweetness that balances the cinnamon.
  • 2 large Eggs Essential for creating a rich dough; can replace with flax eggs for egg-free.

For the Filling

  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon The star of this recipe with its warm aroma.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Can use brown sugar for more depth.

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For drizzling over the snails.
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Adjust for desired consistency.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Allow it to sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, melted butter, and eggs. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place your dough in a greased bowl; cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

Filling and Baking

  • Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. After the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle and spread softened butter over the top.
  • Sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
  • Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  • Place the snails in a greased baking dish. Let them rise again for about 15 minutes while your oven preheats to 350°F.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Finishing Touches

  • Allow the snails to cool slightly before drizzling with a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Notes
