  • 4 slices Challah bread Thick slices work best for a rich flavor.
  • 2 large eggs Creates the custard that enriches the bread.
  • ½ cup milk Use whole milk for creaminess or almond milk for dairy-free.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds warmth and depth to the flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances flavors and balances sweetness.

For Serving

  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese Creamy and slightly sweet, compliments the toast beautifully.
  • 1 cup mixed berries Fresh or frozen. Use strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.
  • to taste tablespoons powdered sugar Optional for dusting before serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  • Dip each slice of Challah into the egg mixture, soaking both sides for about 30 seconds. Allow excess to drip off.

Cooking

  • In a non-stick skillet or griddle, heat a pat of butter over medium heat until sizzling.
  • Cook the soaked bread slices for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  • In a separate bowl, toss the mixed berries with a spoonful of sugar to release their juices.
  • Plate the French toast, spread with mascarpone, and scatter the sweetened berries on top. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard. Use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard.
