Ingredients

Onion Base

  • 2 large large onions, thinly sliced Vidalia or yellow onions work splendidly for sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons butter for a richer flavor

Cheese Mixture

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened acts as the creamy base
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for that melty goodness
  • ½ cup sour cream adds tanginess and creaminess
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder for depth
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions

Caramelizing the Onions

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the sliced onions. Stir occasionally, allowing them to cook slowly for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized.

Combine Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Fold in Caramelized Onions

  • Once the onions are done, fold them into the cheese mixture, ensuring even distribution of flavor.

Bake

  • Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

Serve Warm

  • Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite dippers, such as sliced baguette, crackers, or fresh veggies.

Notes

This dip can easily be made healthier by substituting cream cheese with low-fat cream cheese or adding more veggies. It pairs beautifully with assorted crackers, fresh vegetable sticks, or warm, crusty bread, making it perfect for gatherings.
