Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and butter. Stir gently until melted and bubbling, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Keep stirring until the mixture starts to turn a heavenly golden color.
  • Carefully pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Be cautious; it may bubble up!
  • Continue to stir for an additional 2-3 minutes until fully combined and smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  • Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using; it will thicken as it cools.

Notes

For a spiced version, try adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg. Swap the heavy cream for almond milk for a lighter, vegan version. For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of bourbon or rum.
