  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Adds depth and flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, minced Essential for a spicy kick.
  • 1 tbsp Garam Masala The heart of this dish.
  • 1 tsp Turmeric For a lovely golden hue.
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder Adjust based on spice preference.
  • Salt to taste Salt to taste Essential for flavor balance.
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish Fresh cilantro, for garnish Adds color and freshness.

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the cooking oil. Let it warm for a minute.
  • Add the finely chopped onions and cook until translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and ginger; cook until the garlic softens.
  • Sprinkle in the garam masala, turmeric, and chili powder. Cook for about a minute until fragrant.

Cooking

  • Add the chicken pieces to the skillet, cooking until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Carefully mix in the tomato puree, allowing it to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Let the sauce gently bubble, adding salt to taste.
  • Allow the butter chicken to simmer for about 5 more minutes until thickened.

Serving

  • Sprinkle fresh cilantro on top before serving.

Notes

For a nutritious boost, add vegetables like peas or spinach. This sauce can also be used for butter chicken tacos.
