Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon Choose thick-cut for a heartier bite; turkey bacon can be used for a lighter option.
  • 6 large eggs Free-range for richer flavor.
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk will create creaminess; can substitute with any milk or non-dairy option.
  • 4 cups day-old bread Use sourdough or French bread; gluten-free bread can also work.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar is ideal, but feel free to mix it with Monterey Jack or feta!
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder For a hint of aromatic goodness.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Let it cool slightly, then crumble it into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Assemble and Bake

  • In the greased baking dish, layer the day-old bread cubes evenly. Top with the crumbled bacon and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the top, ensuring all bread is soaking in it.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the casserole.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed and golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Feel free to add sautéed veggies or herbs, and consider pairing with fresh fruit salad or coffee for a delightful meal.
