THIS. Perfect for a hot summer day, PERIOD. It’s easy and can be made using either a blender or food processor.
Aguas frescas in general are simple to make and are very refreshing. The most common kind is watermelon, and as you have read from the title, I decided to make just that but with a little something extra…rosemary!
Adding Herbs
Although herbs are not a common ingredient in agua fresca, I love incorporating them into my drinks because they add such a beautiful aroma and flavor. Rosemary, lavender, thyme, mint, and basil are also popular options.
It’s ideal for the herb to be added whole so it can steep rather than blended with the drink. This could cause the flavor to turn out a little bitter.
Some watermelons are sweet enough to where you won’t need to add any type of sweetener to the drink, so it is important to taste test after blending.
Watermelon Aqua Fresca
Ingredients
- 4 cups watermelon roughly chopped
- 2 cups water
- 1 tbsp sweetener of choice (you may not need it if your watermelon is sweet enough)
- 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
- 4 sprigs of rosemary
Instructions
- Place the watermelon into a blender or food processor and blend until completely broken down. Strain the watermelon juice into a large bowl and discard the pulp.
- Stir in the water, sweetener, and lime juice. Gently stir in the rosemary. Transfer the juice into a pitcher and cover. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving, allowing the rosemary to steep. Serve with slices of lime and extra rosemary sprigs for garnish.
