Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and the sliced onions. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown and sweet.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and creamy.
  • Once the onions are caramelized, allow them to cool slightly. Add the onions to the cream cheese mixture and stir until evenly distributed.
  • For the best flavor, cover and refrigerate the dip for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

Experiment with spices like cayenne pepper or fresh herbs for variations. A dairy-free version can be made by using vegan alternatives for cream cheese and sour cream.
