Welcome to Benefit Recipes! I’m Victoria S., writer and photographer of this blog which I created to share my vegan recipes for all to enjoy!
A Little Bit About Me…
I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in a Spanish household; my mom from Los Angeles, my dad an immigrant from Argentina, and my grandparents, on both sides of my family, were immigrants from Spain. Food has always been a big deal in my family. Although the food in my house and my grandparents’ house was mainly Spanish, the diversity in Los Angeles has given me the privilege to try all kinds of dishes from around the world.
Cooking has been a passion of mine since I was a kid. I love it so much I decided to go to culinary school after graduating high school. I attended the Art Institute of California and graduated in 2016 with an Associate of Science in Culinary Arts degree. Now, during my free time, I enjoy creating and sharing vegan recipes that are inspired by the food in my city, social media, family recipes, or just ideas I have off the top of my head.
Why Vegan?
To be completely honest, becoming vegan is still a slow, habit-breaking process for me. Over the last few years I’ve been able to cut out meat, pork, poultry, dairy, and eggs from my diet. But this is a process I’m choosing for myself.
The three reasons why I decided to start this lifestyle was for my health/allergies, ethical purposes, and global warming/climate change (those animal agriculture statistics are pretty scary). Luckily, vegan options and alternatives are becoming more common at grocery stores and restaurants. Because of this, it’s now easier for anyone to cook and enjoy vegan food at home!
I created and named this blog, Benefit Recipes, to show that you can get the same benefits (maybe even more) in taste and satisfaction with vegan meals rather than animal-based meals. So have fun! Browse and start cooking. 🙂
